Oodnadatta isn’t a lot to do or see. So we start early in the morning and get back to the Oodnadatta track direction Marla. The whole Oodnadatta track is 642 km long and starts at Marree with ending at Marla (or the other way around – it’s all a point of view). This track has a good gravel road (more or less) and shows a nice and delightning scenery. The outback is especially green at the moment. This is exceptional during this time of the year. It comes from the long and unexpected rain during January/February 2017.
The track between Oodnadatta and Marla is reopend for all vehicles since 1 or 2 days. This means the road is dry, hard and most of the water on the floodways will be gone but it doesn’t mean, that the road condition is perfect. Luckely we see a road worker at Oodnadatta and go for asking him about the road condition between Oodnadatta and Marla. He says “you may do it, but there are a lot of dips and you will do a lot of gearing”. He said in about 3 hours it should be possible. Ok it tooks us 3 3/4 hours.
At Marla you find a roadhouse with all you need (bank, general store, bar, restaurant, motel, caravan park and of course fuel). We take a break and then we go further direction Kulgera – once again bitumen road.
Kulgera is a roadhouse with all you need. Here we stay for a night and we do have a leasy evening at the bar.
