Our trip brings us deeper and deeper into the Outback and this may be good felt be the increasing heat. The temperature reaches 39° Celcius at Marree. Information about the heat in the Ouback, 39° Celcius seams to be unstandable hot but it isn’t such dramatic because of the wind and the dryness it’s allways more comfortable then 25° Celisus and 95% humidity. At the outback there is allways a dry wind.
Marree is a real small outback town with 30 permanent residents. But never the less, here you may find 2 Caravan Parks and the Hotel Marree with rooms and cabins and a swimming pool as also a General Store with all you need (Fuel, Food, postal Services, workshop and so on). In the age of the “Old Ghan” Marree was a important town and Railway Station. All Infos about this history may be found at the Museum and the Railway Station.
At Marree is the real important cross-way of the Birdsville and Oodnadatta track and even the road down South to Adelaide starts here.
At least the Marree people has made a sand art picture. They build the 2nd largest dessert image of the world. It’s an “Aborigine warrior“, 21 km longness. Up from the sky the whole Some pictures here
