We have left St. Louis and the last part of the Route 66 takes us to Springfield (IL), Bloomington and then to the end or in the view of the history to the start of the Route 66 in Chicago.
At Springfield there is a really gorgeous Drive Inn the “Cozy Dog Drive Inn” with its unique “Cozy Dogs”. It’s a must to have been here and to eat a Cozy Dog when ever drive the Route 66.
Next village we see is ton. A nice, tidy village which is just a spot on the Route 66.
Up from here it is quasi a short trip to achieve Chicago and with this also the end of the Route 66. In the historic view it is the Start of the Route 66 – so it’s just a question of the point of view 😉
Over all these miles we have had so much beautiful, impressive and pleasant moments. We have met a lot of amiable people and drove through much history. 85% of the “Mother Road” – Route 66 still exists and we have done it.
And finally we visit “Lou Mitchell’s Restaurant & Bakery“. This restaurant exist since 1923 and has seen and hosted many celebrities, senators, governors and even President Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon. Finally it is considered as the starting point of the Route 66 in Chicago
We have some days left and so we go up to Milwaukee in the Beer and Cheese county state Wisconsin.
