We are still driving around on a elevation of 1500 – 2200 m over sea level on the Route 66 and we hit a lot of villages and small cities.
After Flagstaff to the east there is Winslow, a beautiful small town. Winslow seems to may exist of the flair of the Route 66. The Song “Take it easy” which has the line “standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona” written and performed by The Eagles made Winslow achieving national fame in the year 1972.
Next town we drive through is Holbrook. There is not much to see and so we go further to the “Petrified Forest National Park“. This National Park has a nice Painted Desert and the amazing petrified woods. The petrified wood is more then 225 Billion years in ages and is absolutely incredible to see and touch.
Our way brings us up to Gallup, a town with not much to see but that is ok for us there are still many kilometers/miles to go further on the Route 66.
One thing is very good: we found nearly 80-90% of the original Old Route 66 to drive on in the State of New Mexico.
